Scotland Yard, formally the new scotland yard, is the name given to the metropolitan police in London, which was founded in 1829 by Sir Robert Peel.
Its name derives from the location of the original headquarters of the metropolitan police in its origins, in 4 Whitehall place, where there was a back door facing the street Great Scotland Yard.
The British police is popularly known as "bobbies", due to the name of the founder, Robert, since in England Bobby is the nickname of Robert, Roberta or Robin.
